He’s not one of the girls…
Maggie was getting irritated with her man and was telling me about it last week. Apparently, she was discussing what went on in their break room at work. It was about her and a bunch of other ladies. The topic was centered on the new boss’ assistant and her outfits and all. Mid-way into her story, her boyfriend was clearly not listening anymore, lol.
I love connecting with my man…whether it’s about a movie or work-related issues and all. However, I’m very cautious about restricting myself from some things.
What a lot of us fail to realize is that our men are not the same as our girlfriends! Men are not interested in the tiny details and “gossip” as much as we are. Now, I’m not saying you should give him a pass whenever he’s not interested in your issues. No.
What I’m essentially saying is that your man doesn’t really need to know the tiny details about the dress you saw at the mall and the 15 minute battle it took to buy it; or the types of hairstyles you want to try this winter…or subjects like that. That’s what the girls are for!
Men are very visual problem-solvers. One thing I’ve noticed with my fiancé is that he is very willing to jump in and solve my problems…anything to make me happy.
However, instead of me discussing details about a dress, I simply buy it and try it on to show him.
You can’t get mad every time you try to engage him in such conversations and he barely pays attention.
The mistake Maggie made was all the details she was relaying onto him. Men have a short attention span in this respect and we gotta learn how to cut down. A 30minutes conversation with your man regarding clothes, shoes and work gossip is *extremely* excruciating! Limit these things to 2 or 3 minutes and hang out with the girls to elaborate on the issue. That’s what they’re there for!
